Five years later, Windows 11 brings back much-missed taskbar options (and more)
Microsoft is also testing a smaller taskbar and more customizable Start menu.

- Windows 11 taskbar can now be docked to any edge of the screen (left, right, top, bottom).
- Users can configure different taskbar behaviors for each position.
- Features like auto-hide, tablet-optimized taskbar, touch gestures, and Search box are not yet supported in alternate positions.
- A smaller taskbar option is being tested to increase vertical screen space.
- The Start menu will have user-selectable size settings.
- Each section of the Start menu (pinned apps, recommended, all apps) will be individually toggleable.
- Users can hide "recommended" apps and hide "recommended" apps while still seeing jump lists and recent files.
- Improved file relevancy for the "recommended" apps section.
- Changes are being rolled out via Windows Insider Preview builds, with more polished versions expected later.
